The Story Behind the Vision: From the Stage to the Lens

Every great story begins with a choice. ToyMan Media LLC wasn't built inside a corporate boardroom—it was forged through lifelong artistic discipline, real-world grit, and a relentless dedication to the craft of visual storytelling.

The Creative Foundations: A Lifelong Journey in the Arts

Long before stepping behind a digital cinema camera, founder Toyance "Toy" Coleman understood the psychological power of performance and narrative. Toy’s path in the arts began in the third grade, growing up in creative magnet programs where he trained intensively in acting, theater, and dance.

To attend the prestigious Paseo Academy of the Fine and Performing Arts in Kansas City, he had to audition for highly competitive judges, securing his spot as a theater major. That deep, classical discipline followed him through his higher education at Missouri Western State University.

In theater, you learn that a powerful story is never just about the words spoken—it’s about the subtext, the emotional pacing, the physical space, and the chemistry of the room. This lifelong training gave Toy a rare, crucial skill as a director: the ability to read people instantly, put non-actors completely at ease, and guide interview subjects so their prepared answers feel natural, powerful, and deeply human on camera.

The Real-World Pivot & The Grit of the Craft

In 2020, as the global landscape shifted overnight, the traditional stage paused—but a massive new digital spotlight was opening right behind the lens. As a Kansas City native relocating to Florida, Toy decided to merge his performance background with a deep hometown love for authentic, slow-smoked barbecue, launching the digital show Toy's Food Chronicles.

To build momentum, Toy kicked off an intensive organic marketing campaign 30 days before the channel even debuted. When the first episode dropped, the response was immediate—gaining over 200 dedicated followers right out of the gate.

But behind the scenes, the challenge was real. To get the show off the ground, Toy spent the first two months borrowing a late friend's Fujifilm mirrorless camera, learning the ropes of framing, exposure, and audio. As the channel grew, he began investing in his own gear, building DIY lighting rigs and teaching himself the technical side of production.

Then, life brought its most beautiful transition. In 2021, Toy's son was born. Already a father to a young daughter, Toy faced a new reality: he had to support his growing family, take care of his kids, and find a way to monetize the creative skills he was building. He spent his days selling healthcare insurance, but he couldn't let go of the camera.

Stepping Behind the Lens

Toy began utilizing his natural ability to connect and build relationships, heading out into the Tampa Bay area to film commercials and content for local restaurants and micro-businesses. Some of this early work was free; some was low-pay—but every single shoot was a critical training ground.

While he eventually stepped away from hosting his own YouTube channel to focus fully on his family, he realized something profound: his true creative fulfillment didn't come from being in the spotlight anymore. It came from the elite art of stepping behind the lens to build the stage for others. He saw that business owners, corporate executives, and couples all possessed extraordinary stories, but lacked the technical translation engine to project them with absolute authority.

From that realization, ToyMan Media LLC was officially born.
